Controversy Over Route 240 Path Through Rock Creek Park
John Nofen Jr planning director of the National Capital Planning Commission says he will meet Maryland Roads Commission staff before the next planning session on August 6 and 7 to study Route 240 and Belt Route plans. The commission disapproves using park land for Route 240 through East West Highway and Beach Drive while preliminarily approving the belt route, with final approval pending detailed plans. The issue centers on parallel sections through the park and authority between federal and state groups, with potential opposition shaping the roads project.
