Youngest Chief Admiral Sherman Hearts Navy Revival
The 1949 fall revolt led to Admiral Forrest Sherman becoming the youngest Navy chief and first naval flying officer to head the service. In 21 months he mended rifts, restored prestige, and earned praise for expanding bases in Spain and negotiating with Franco and allied leaders. He died in Naples from a heart attack after single handedly steering this delicate mission.
