Determining the value of drought stressed corn
Drought stressed corn for grain yields little if any value for farmers but can be used for silage by dairy and beet producers. Feeding trials show silage from barren stalks can equal 65 to 100 percent of normal silage value on a dry matter basis. Pricing methods include market price based, feeding value, Petersen constants, and least cost rations to determine a fair price for drought stressed silage for dairy herds.
