Jobless Pay System Draws Fire From Maryland Official
Maryland Employment Chief Robt Kimble told a three hour legislative hearing that the unemployment insurance system is too hard on some honest jobseekers. He urged changes to extend benefits and reduce penalties for quitting or misconduct. He proposed payments of 53-60 percent of the last year’s earnings for up to 30 weeks, and criticized weeks-off penalties as unwise. He spoke amid a 31 page communique and cautioned he may not seek reappointment.
