Heirs dispute codicil in Addison estate case in circuit court
Heirs of Maggie Addison contest a 1945 codicil directing funds to Methodist charities. Attorneys argued the brother’s absolute real estate gift voids the codicil, contending the money should benefit Strawbridge Orphanage Asbury Home and related church groups. The estate, valued around 30000, faced care bills of about 7000. In separate notes a Soviet geophysicist sought asylum then requested repatriation in Helsinki.

Detrick Excluded From 3 Percent Federal Cut
Fort Detrick will not be affected immediately by a 3 percent personnel reduction directive for Washington area agencies. A Detrick spokesman said the cut likely targets the direct Washington area and that Detrick has no knowledge of any cut there. The plan, outlined by Budget Bureau Director Maurice H. Stans, aims to reduce authorized jobs by at least 3 percent in the 1961 fiscal year, potentially eliminating 6,000 to 7,000 positions in the Washington region. Some agency heads fear program cuts and layoffs, while others seek to avoid job losses by eliminating new or vacant positions and maximizing current manpower.
