WV Bar proposes guilty pleas for innocent defendants
The West Virginia State Bar suggested allowing innocent defendants to plead guilty or enter conditional pleas to avoid trials. The proposal, presented to the state Supreme Court, would require later suppression motions to decide if the plea stands. Critics argued it undermines an accused's right to plead not guilty and risked coercion.
