Weather summary for Western Maryland and Maryland Mountains shows Saturday and Sunday mostly sunny and hot with highs around the mid 90s, light winds, and Saturday night cooling to the 70s. Yesterday's temps include Frederick 96, Cumberland 98, Hagerstown 95, Westminster 95, Oakland 88. A chance of thunderstorms is noted Monday with cooler, below normal precipitation ahead for July 30 to August 3.

West Virginia woman charged with DWI in Maryland

Debra L. Hayes, 25, of Harpers Ferry, WV, was arrested by Maryland State Police after a traffic stop and charged with driving while intoxicated and possession of marijuana. She was released on personal bond after a District Court commissioner hearing. Police also investigate a Mount Airy breaking and entering theft of 915 dollars, two rifles, and a 12 gauge shotgun at 12202 Lime Plant Road. A Sears VHS recorder and the three firearms were stolen. Th. A. D. Galloway of the Frederick MSP is investigating the theft. Police seek suspects who slashed tires and tore an antenna from a blue and white Ford pickup on Calvert Drive. Any information should be given to state police.

New Victim Relief Program Sets Up to $500 for Court Costs

In Rockville a victim advocate program offers up to 500 dollars for court appearance or medical expenses and up to 1,000 dollars for property repair or replacement for Montgom ery County crime victims reported within 48 hours. Eligibility limits apply by income, with 90 day filing window.

Missing Children Announcements To Air In Hotels

Comsat Video Enterprises will broadcast 500 one minute missing children announcements monthly to hotels nationwide. Fifteen different spots per month will run with two children shown, photos, description, and circumstances. A toll free number for tips from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children will be included. The air time is donated.

Ex-Big Brother Vogel found guilty of abuse and sex offense

Alfred Philip Vogel of Takoma Park was convicted by a Montgomery County jury on charges of child abuse, third degree sex offense, and battery in a case tied to incidents with a 12 year old boy while Vogel acted as his Big Brother. The trial followed a prior hung jury and ends a lengthy legal battle.
