Newfoundland Votes to Join With Canada
Newfoundland voters favor joining Canada with 176,297 eligible, 72,756 for union and 69,540 against. Ottawa observers note the margin is close and may affect royal approval, as Prime Minister King had linked entry to a clear majority. A runoff was ordered due to the near tie and uncertainty over self rule versus confederation.
