Posses Hunt Captor of Girl Near Bariton
A vigorous chase by armed authorities and farmers is under way in Bariton New Jersey after a big colored man abducted a young white girl and fled to swamps along the Schuylerville road. Deputy Fleetwood and constable William Fleetwood lead efforts with Sheriff Wurtell adding men as the fugitive eludes capture. The search aims to take the pair dead or alive, with warnings of deadly consequences for anyone else who arrives first. Bertha Matthews, fifteen, missing from Charleston, is suspected by some officials as the victim though others dispute this.
