Coblentz farms designated agricultural preserves in Middletown Valley

Frederick County commissioners unanimously designated two Middletown Valley farms owned by Paul and Virginia Coblentz as agricultural preservation districts. The program requires keeping farmland for at least five years and allows potential sale of development rights, though Coblentz says he does not plan to sell now. He opposes Crest Homes Inc. rezoning nearby and notes his family’s long farming heritage. The move links with neighboring Huffer Farm to form a protective block south of Fountaindale and U.S. 40-A, aimed at keeping land in agriculture. The county plans to preserve extensive open space through coordinated land parcels.
