State Health Dept Lists Six Types of Maryland Waste Disposal

The Maryland State Health Department outlines six basic waste disposal types used in the state. Open dumps are most common, though they pose health and environmental risks, while modified open dumps reduce fires but keep rodent and air pollution concerns. The department notes sea dumping is not used here, and sanitary landfills face rising costs and limited land. Incinerators exist in four areas with high upfront costs but potential efficiency gains, and compost plants are not yet used but could offer revenue.
