Police State trend in Eastern Europe cited by critic
In a critical overview the writer describes Romania’s arrests of National Peasant Party leaders and alleged crackdowns on opponents. The piece links these actions to a broader shift toward Soviet style policing, noting U.S. protests and the regime’s admissions of detaining dissidents under vague charges. It contrasts Romania’s regime with democratic aims once supported by its people. Veterans Debate Universal Military Training Convictions
Washington July 23 veterans groups outline strong views on Universal Military Training UMT. Disabled American Veterans says UMT best prevents future war and would deter aggression by signaling a sharp military deterrent. American Veterans Committee counters UMT fails in atomic age without UN force and advocates a modern, globally capable armed force. Veterans of Foreign Wars Amvets and American Legion support UMT as essential to national security while preferring UN backed world force before large standing armies.
