Automatic device stops Burlington train at high speed
Chicago hosts trials of a new automatic traffic restraining system on Burlington tracks. In tests a 50 mph mainline train halted within 1100 feet after the throttle was held open. Experts hail the invention as the safest safeguard against human error and foresee nationwide railroad adoption. A second trial used telephone transmission of railroad orders over 18 miles with perfect accuracy.

Turning House With a Turntable Home
William Belman of Bay Side New Jersey sparked interest in Chatham by recounting the late George Brace’s inventive turning house. Brace built a house in Meyersville with a dining table attached to a wheel to rotate the home facing wind and sun, but the device proved impractical and was blocked after arguments with his wife. The house later burned and was rebuilt without the turntable feature.
