July deficit for U S nabs lower than expected
The Treasury said July's deficit was 18.2 billion, down 20 percent from a year earlier, with revenue up 9.2 percent to 46.3 billion and spending up 1.1 percent to 84.5 billion. For 10 months the deficit stands at 123.8 billion, and analysts expect 1989 total to be higher than 1988 due to S&L bailout costs.
