Roadmap drawn to seek life beyond Earth by researchers
More than 100 scientists at NASA Ames gather to craft a five year plan for studying life beyond Earth. They discuss biology, detection tech, and no doubt bold missions on Earth or in space, aiming for a public report in months. The panel notes Earth life can endure extreme conditions, and discoveries like water beneath Europa and possible Martian fossils fuel excitement.

Investigators to tour burned Ecstasy cruise ship
A fire aboard the 855 foot Carnival Ecstasy near Miami Beach prompted a 10 member NTSB team to inspect the vessel as passengers endured a smoky ordeal. Fire started near the rear and spread to the fourth deck while many passengers wore life vests and waited on deck. Eleven were hospitalized for smoke inhalation and other injuries as crews battled the blaze for hours. The investigation will focus on the cause and crew response, with initial reports suggesting a laundry room origin.
