Tract Once Linked to Charles Carroll Sought for Trail Use

The National Park Service plans to condemn a 42 acre tract atop South Mountain once owned by Charles Carroll of Carrollton to include it in the Appalachian Trail from Maine to Georgia. The last deed dated 1862 to Anna Horsey. heirs are urged to claim the funds. Carroll, a Declaration signer, was Maryland senator and U.S. senator from Maryland.

Democrats fail to fill ballot spots in Frederick County race

The Frederick County Democratic Central Committee filed to place Norman Usiak on the state's attorney ballot, filling one of four vacancies. The party may have only this new name, leaving a House of Delegates vacancy in District 4A where Valerie Hertges faces two Republican incumbents. Hertges acknowledged the challenge of running against two incumbents in a Republican county, noting possible effects if voters split tickets.

Heat wave starts workweek with highs near 100 in region

Forecasters warn heat can be dangerous as temperatures stay above the mid 90s through Saturday and may reach 100 on Wednesday.
