Denied rezoning for dragway site to adding 490 homes near Monrovia

Frederick County Planning Commission rejected a request by the Wicom family to rezone the 164 acre Md 7 dragway site for up to 490 homes. The vote 4 to 2 followed planners noting current R 1 and agricultural zoning allow 125 homes. Opponents cited school crowding traffic and loss of rural character while supporters argued water and sewer lines would fund future development. The plan anticipated a 10 year build and eventual closure of the dragway with utility customers for a planned Monrovia plant.
