Hood College hosts three summer reading programs for area children
Hood College ran three reading initiatives hosting about 110 area youngsters at Totem Arts Center and on campus. Under Dr. Jane Matanso and staff, 60 youths spent five weeks in reading skills sessions. A separate program for capable readers involved 38 students in grades three to six, while a younger gifted readers group of 15 focused on writing and reading. Field trips, guest speakers, and parent seminars complemented the curriculum, with administrators calling the venture successful and planning expansion next semester.
