Ancient water systems shaped great cities across eras
The first known method to deliver water to cities arose with the Phoenicians. The Greeks adopted tunnel digging to bring water into urban centers, and the Romans expanded this with aqueducts towering 50 to 100 feet, transporting water from distant sources to Rome for many miles.
