Blue Cross Probe Begins In Maryland Legislature
A legislative committee in Maryland will start a study on Blue Cross and hospital costs. Sen John Clarence North said the inquiry will be lengthy and a prime fact finding effort for possible law changes. Gov Tawes asked the State Planning Commission to help arrange an independent cost survey after Blue Cross requested a 24.5 percent rate rise. North criticized a ruling that blocked opponents’ evidence, insisting the legislature must act if gaps appear. The panel plans procedures but will not hear witnesses at the first session.
