Wounded veteran awaits sentence in forgery case

Judge Patrick M. Schnauffer deferred sentencing Kenneth C. Creager of Burkittsville until July 29 citing no prior record before him. Creager, a noted forger, had two checks totaling 127.50 forged in May at East End Texaco and Stop Bros. and Milton Holt’s business, with stepfather Gilmer Smith disputing the signature. State’s Attorney Charles A. Price referenced past forgery convictions, while Alten C. Whitmore noted Creager’s chronic parole issues and treatment history. Smith testified the signature was not his.
