Damascus Player Placed Under Indefinite Suspension

Johnny Day first baseman of the Damascus Club in the Tri County League is put under indefinite suspension by league president Cameron Kebne after an unprovoked assault on umpire William Nuse during a stormy Tri County meeting. Day did not defend himself as Damascus manager Basil Burdette defended the umpire and blamed Day for the incident that left Nuse with a fractured arm. The meeting adjourned amid confusion but Damascus announced it would retain its franchise as other clubs praised sportsmanship while condemning Day. Additional notes: Thurmont to meet Friday to decide team fate. Pitcher Plug Brightwell released by Salisbury. Lander forfeited a game but Damascus players urged continuation.
