Western Union to raise telegram and letter rates June 17
The company plans increases to 15 word telegrams by 5 cents and 50 word day letters by 10 cents. Fifty word night letters would rise under 10 cents on average. Telegraphic money orders under $100 would rise 5 cents with higher amounts graded. Increase links to higher wage costs from union contracts. Private wire, telemeter, telex, and volume-discount plans remain unaffected unless FCC delays.
