Dulles Offers Limited Travel To Red China For Reporters
July 18 report shows Secretary of State Dulles proposed allowing a limited number of journalists to travel to Red China for a six month trial. Executives debated the plan for 30 minutes, seeking limits on who could go and how many reporters would travel behind the Bamboo Curtain. A State Department survey was ordered to gauge how many news organizations want access, amid concerns about economic and political implications. The meeting included Dulles, Herter, and major editors and broadcasters.
