He noted 356 legal aides and 7 008 decisions last year, all written by staff lawyers and reviewed before approval, with the office serving as an independent government watchdog established in 1921.

COLLEGE PARK Md July 17 2 Man confronted with a universe too complex too diverse and too vast for many to cope with is expecting an answer a prominent educator said today Dr H Harry Giles former director of the New York University Center for Human Relations Studies said Man today wants an answer and he would rather have a bad or wrong one than no answer at all Giles lecture was one of a series he has delivered to teachers taking summer studies at the University of Maryland The series is entitled Problems and Trends in Contemporary American Education Man is terribly alone and he wants to run with the pack Rather than derive answers for himself he seems the leader who has answers ready made Prejudices and escape goating emerge to serve the need for man to be sure of an absolute the need for belonging The quickest way for man to become accepted is to share prejudices common to the group This is the way he satisfies the cy to cling together for security in this troubled world of atomic bombs and the potential for vast lanterns.

French Assembly approves Algerian police powers bill
Paris reports the French National Assembly narrowly backed Premier Bourges-Manoury’s push for special police powers in Algeria and France. The chamber voted to take up government measures, with a 338 to 18 procedural vote and a 435 to 149 line in a separate move to block a Communist amendment.
