County growth to lead metro region in 1990 to 2020 job gains

Frederick County is predicted to top Maryland counties in the Washington region for job growth from 1990 to 2020. The Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments report forecasts more than 62,000 new jobs, a 114.8 percent rise, with the county ranking second in total growth.

Job Growth Forecast in Metro Washington Area

A 2020 forecast projects 62 000 new jobs in metro Washington Maryland counties with Calvert County at 3.9 percent growth. Loudoun County in Virginia leads with the highest growth at 113 000 jobs from 1990 to 2020. Frederick and Prince William counties show similar growth rates, while Stafford is slated for a 195 percent rise. Between 1993 and 1997 the services sector added 114 000 jobs while government and federal positions declined. Frederick added 9 855 jobs, Montgomery 24 000, and Prince George's 16 000. Per capita incomes vary with Montgomery at 40 446 and Loudoun at 30 807, while Frederick and the metro Washington average sit around 33 136.

Frederick County Civil War Lincoln Funeral Reenactment

A horse drawn hearse carried a Lincoln coffin replica as about 100 reenactors formed a funeral procession along South Market Street for the 250th anniversary Civil War history event in Frederick County. The forecast calls for hot sunny weather this weekend with various planned activities.

Frederick weekend events mix history and blues festival

The city hosts a Civil War re enactment and museum displays on East Patrick Street with Lincoln relics. Free plays at the Weinberg Center at 2 and 4 pm honor Maryland’s 1861 sessions. Blues Festival at the former Seventh day Adventist Church grounds runs noon to 5 30 pm with food and activities. Lotus Blossom Festival at Lilypens Water Gardens features children events and performances Sunday. Weather calls for mostly sunny skies and highs near 90, with Sunday also sunny and highs in the low 90s and lows around 60s.

Frederick Brewing turns waste into profit with grain yeast and more

Frederick Brewing Company turns by products into money. Grain from fermenting beer is sold to farmers for feed and used yeast is sold to food processors. The plant handles cardboard recycling and glass cullet, cutting disposal costs and boosting monthly profit between three and five thousand dollars.

Maryland to audit largest HMOs over payment denials

Maryland Insurance Administration will audit Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Maryland and MAMSI after a Maryland Hospital Association complaint alleging widespread denials of medically necessary care. Hospitals claim millions in unpaid bills and a sharp rise in denials, with $1.5 million in costs for Frederick Memorial Hospital over two years.
