New BoE program aids Frederick students in job search
Frederick County Board of Education will start a free job placement service for about 900 vocational graduates and other seniors, led by Alonzo D. Bud Peters, coordinator for vocational placement. The pilot has already helped 40 to 50 students, with 256 businesses contacted by teachers last year. Peters and Bell emphasize guidance, not guaranteed jobs, focusing on attitude, dependability, and proper interviewing. Employers can obtain lists of trained students and contact them directly, with Peters offering ongoing support as needed.

Campaign battles beer lookalikes hit the shelves
The American Automobile Association launches a nationwide campaign against candy can lookalikes called Pickelob and Milder. The effort targets toy and candy makers including Fleetcorp of Philadelphia maker of Chug-a-Can, arguing such items glamorize alcohol for youngsters. The company declined comment as AAA promotes removal from stores and distribution channels.
