Farm irrigation system in Germantown boosts Montgomery crops
On a 460 acre Germantown farm Hassan Janney engineered a 2.25 mile movable aluminum piping system that provides 24 hour irrigation via whirling sprinklers. The setup lifts water 180 feet from Seneca Creek with a 2500 gallon per minute pump, doubling crop production in three years and saving on land costs. The system faces concerns about Potomac flow but proves irrigation can maximize output in dry spells. Neighboring farmers like Francis Ginn plan similar schemes as interest grows.
