Water's Critical Role in Dairy Cow Production and Health
Water ranks second only to oxygen as a life essential and is the major nutrient in milk. Lactating dairy cows need about 36 gallons daily to support 60 pounds of milk, with 32 gallons from water intake beyond feed moisture. Proper trough access, line sizing, and clean troughs boost intake and production. milk is 87 percent water, so clean water is vital.
