Falcon restocking ramps up in East with summer releases
About 30 peregrine falcons, an endangered species, will be released this summer by the Interior Department, U S Fish and Wildlife Service, Cornell University and state agencies in New York, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland, and Colorado. A public release is set for July 3 at Brigantine National Wildlife Refuge near Atlantic City, New Jersey. The effort follows last year’s successful 16-bird release along the East Coast and aims to restore the rock peregrine’s western lineage with eastern populations.
