Westinghouse ion gauge teased as measuring next to nothing
A satirical take on Westinghouse research labs and their new ion gauge. The piece pokes fun at measuring “next to nothing” by claiming the gauge could gauge air pressure with a single molecule left in a vacuum. It blends science whimsy with domestic humor and a child’s joke about nothing.

National Security Council blamed for Far East failures
In Washington July 13 observers warn of a second Pearl Harbor risk from Korea and fault the Administration for not predicting Far East trouble or allocating forces. Retail Pork Price Surges Across Stores This Week
Retail pork prices jumped up to 20 cents a pound in several stores this week as price increases spread to meat, poultry, eggs, coffee, bread, sugar and other foods. War fears and seasonal supply dips helped fuel the rise, with chain surveys showing center-cut pork chops up to 29 cents a pound at times. Beef, lamb and eggs also moved, while sugar and coffee rose amid drought and storage concerns. Prices in wholesale markets and consumer demand pressures point to persistent inflationary trends through the period.
