State Trooper L M Ridge was shot and killed during a gunfight at the north edge of Lawn in Hagerstown. Witnesses say Orris fired after Ridge attempted to seize a rifle. Orris was wounded as police closed in. Ridge, 27, recently promoted to trooper first class, was a Baltimore County native and World War II veteran. He leaves a wife who is a nurse and a son about 18 months old.
