Bridges Action Triggers Near Riot At Longshore Union
In San Francisco on July 11 Harry Bridges opposed his CIO union in Korea policy, provoking a near riot at Local 10 Longshoremen's meeting. Fist fights broke as Bridges led anti-Communist opposition and a vote on the resolution was blocked. Bridges, a Joral member, had supporters and critics among rightwing longshoremen. The text notes his prior federal perjury conviction over a 1945 naturalization hearing and pending appeal.
