State charges against former Hancock police chief dropped
Prosecutors dropped charges of fourth degree sexual assault and battery against former Hancock police chief James C. McAulay, citing the cost and time of a lengthy trial over a weak case. McAulay, fired in May after nearly three years as chief, said he was elated and maintained he violated no ethics. Prosecutors said they might reopen the case if McAulay sues the town or harasses witnesses. McAulay and his attorney had discussed possible civil action against Hancock.
