Third To Half Inch Of Rain Boosts Crops
Unexpected showers deposited third to nearly a half inch of precipitation overnight, easing a dry spell in the city and county. Rain amounts ranged from .32 inch at the airport to .48 inch at High Knob, with .37 inch at the State Police barracks and .39 inch at Unionville observers. County Agent Shoemaker said the rain will aid pasture and crops, including corn, while wheat harvest proceeds in the area. The rainfall also helps replenish water supplies as reservoir spillways ease but drought remains a concern. Temperatures topped near 85 locally yesterday with more hot, humid conditions forecast through midweek.
