Carnival at Walkersville Declared Successful
Walkersville Volunteer Fire Company ended the carnival Saturday night with a crowd second only to the Fourth. Despite incidents the committee hopes a net will cover a 56,000 indebtedness. Fireworks underperformed on the Fourth and a bullet shard injured a visitor near a shanty gallery. A frightened animal exhibit monkey was lured down by a banana after a day and night aloft. Edgar A. Zimmerman and Philip J. Beard led the carnival committee.

Greyhound Proposes 5 Percent Fare Increase East of Mississippi
CHICAGO July 7 am Eastern and Great Lakes Greyhound companies plan a 5 percent fare rise in the northeastern United States effective August 1. Genet said notices have been filed with the Interstate Commerce Commission and state commissions. The increase will apply generally to states east of the Mississippi and north of Washington DC. other Greyhound divisions have not sought raises.

Westminster Court Hears Local Traffic Cases
Area residents faced Magistrate Ernest F. Dukes in Westminster for traffic and conduct cases. Rowen Caudill of Woodsboro was found guilty of reckless driving and fined 25 dollars. Collateral forfeitures included John Gorst of Frederick for exceeding 50 mph at 11.45, and George Cantwell of Mt Airy for exceeding 30 mph at 6.45.
