Someday Farm Hosts Polled Hereford Field Day in Maryland
Someday Farm in Liberty Town hosted a Maryland Polled Hereford field day featuring a panel on trends, a show cattle fitting demonstration, steer and heifer judging, and farm tours. The Mazerdashes, owners of 120 acres, run 45 registered Polled Herefords and highlighted their growth via strong foundation stock and embryo transfers. Grand champion steer honors went to Bobby Fogle of Walkersville, reserve to Jimmy Miller of Sabillasville, with Anne Whitlock of Princess Anne taking the champion heifer and Michele Blackbert of Howard County reserve. Charlie Boyd judged the events.

Alfalfa Seeding Window and Methods in Maryland
The ideal fall alfalfa seeding period runs mid August to early September with earlier plantings favored. Frederick County leads Maryland in cows and hay, while soil pH and fertility, varieties, herbicides, inoculation, and seeding methods are common questions. Start with a soil test if spending over 200 per acre, then prepare a smooth seedbed, choose conventional or no till methods, and plan weed control and fertilizer timing accordingly.
