State parks see rise in visits in early 1989 overall
Maryland parks posted higher attendance in the first six months of 1989 versus 1988, though Cunningham Falls and Gambrill saw sharp drops due to unusually damp spring and summer. Cunningham fell from 407,240 to 357,654. Gambrill from 229,879 to 142,170. Park managers cited weather as the main cause, while Greenbrier and Fort Frederick posted large gains. Local attractions also saw mixed results with the Church Street Visitors' Center up 5.8 percent and the Catoctin Zoo rising 76.4 percent, offset by Rose Hill Manor down 6.1 percent.
