The article notes budget ceilings tied to a presidential limit, with Congress setting 203 882 Army 837 000 Navy and Marines 686 B82 and Ai Force 950201001. Butter Piles Up Under Price Support Plan
Washington July 7 The Government seeks a way to dispose of 175 million pounds of surplus butter stored under farm price support programs. Stocks have tripled in a year and may grow further. Agriculture Department officials seek an acceptable method to reduce the butter to avoid a $100.9 million outlay. Butter is bought to support dairy prices at 60 cents a pound. Legal limits prevent selling below cost unless in danger of spoilage, and no plan exists to absorb current output without replacing demand. Some relief use offers face protests from margarine producers. The first western irrigation project by the U S Bureau of Reclamation was completed in 1906.
