Higher altitude urged for flights over mountains in soupy weather
President Truman's special air safety inquiry board urged aircraft to fly at least 2,000 feet above terrain in mountains during low visibility. It also called for rapid installation of ground distance devices. The move follows the June 13 Capital Air crash on Blue Ridge and links to takeoff and other recent accidents. Airlines already exceed minimal clearances.
