Lander project gains support for river access plan
The Lander improvement plan aims to create river access via a low profile 18 foot gravel road across Lock 29 to the Potomac with a 10 foot shoulder ending at a parking area. Officials say it will minimally affect flood flow and nearby vernal pools while easing parking congestion at existing boat ramps. Public comment in 1998 drew six astute and oral responses from 24 attendees, with broad support for facility upgrades.
