Maryland Board approves first master plan for state colleges
The Maryland Board for Higher Education unanimously approved the first master plan for state colleges and universities. It would cut College Park enrollments to 4,000 by 1983, freeze others, and shift program development across campuses while raising state cost shares. The plan, altered from the February draft, keeps the major framework intact, according to Commissioner Sheldon Knorr.

Schaefer to close Baltimore plant
The F. M. Schaefer Brewing Co. said it will shutter its Baltimore Highlandtown brewery and move production to the under-utilized facility near Allentown, Pennsylvania. About 300 workers will lose their jobs as the plant closes at end of business today, reducing shipments from Baltimore port to Puerto Rico.

Windt released from hospital in Maryland case
Sherry Windt, 10, released from hospital end of June in Montgomery County Maryland after a court in Rockville ruled she was responsible for her mother's death in 1975. Judge Douglas H Moore Jr ordered she live in the community under probation and court supervision while continuing intensive treatment in Baltimore. An appeal remains.
