Brunswick Sees Growth as 1977 Building Permits Rise

In 1977 Brunswick issued 73 building permits, two more than 1976, with 3 percent for single family lots. Woodside Station area plans add 84 single family lots east of Brunswick High School. The Weber Corporation and Ryland Homes share development, five subdivision plats approved, five zoning cases heard with three approvals. A new Brunswick health clinic is under construction and recreation facilities were added at the high school. The town plans to update zoning ordinances maps and comprehensive plan and seeks sites for future industrial development to strengthen community identity.

New Market Zoning Activity and School Expansion in 1877

In 1877 New Market logged 15 applications for improvements, nearly double the prior year’s eight, with 13 permits issued and two denials. Two new antique shops were approved while most commercial uses stayed the same. No subdivision activity. The Historic District preserved town character. Three Board of Zoning Appeals cases were heard, one approved for a retail exception. The enlarged New Market Elementary School, capacity 73, opened fall, reflecting district growth, not town growth.
