Czech Offer Is Rejected
West German border police said Czech authorities rejected a bid to trade seven U.S. Army personnel seized on Sunday for three Czech political refugees. U S Army headquarters in Heidelberg said it had nothing to do with the talks and hoped the men would be released soon by other means. The captives, a captain and six enlisted men from an artillery medical detachment, were seized while on a liberty trip. Names were not released. The Czech offer, led by a major, was rejected at the last meeting. The Americans reportedly were turned over to Prague border patrol. An Army spokesman said the negotiations were separate from the escapees case and expressed hope for release without difficulty. Also noted: the earth’s magnetic pole has been found to move slowly over years, with magnetism possibly from the earth’s liquid core.
