Foreign economic policy framed as Ike administration's next year priority
The Eisenhower administration plans a three year extension of the trade agreements act as its top foreign policy item for next year. Congressional momentum stalled by a one year renewal after expiration and election year politics may delay broader hearings on trade policy. Randall's commission recommendations face a log jam amid tax reform and social security bills. A centralized coordinating mechanism remains elusive, with current arrangements lacking formal authority across departments. Meanwhile allied trade shifts and Japan's postwar trade relations spotlight the need for coordinated policy decisions.

Two Puerto Ricans May Be Released
In Jersey City authorities said two men, Jose Angel Bonilla age 22 and Miguel Angelo Rivera age 19, detained since Saturday as possible members of an anti United States Puerto Rican nationalist group likely will be released tomorrow. Both men were questioned by Secret Service and cleared of connections to the group that shot at the House and attempted to kill former President Truman. A third man, Victor Rivera, cleared by the Secret Service, was held on a prior motor vehicle violation. Police noted Bonilla and Miguel Rivera were arrested on a disorderly conduct charge for later investigation. The case was expected to peter out as arraignment loomed. There was also a note about the battleship Missouri containing 800 miles of welding and 1,135,000 rivets.
