Whisky as food ruling shocks Peculiar New York case
In New York on July 7 a judge ruled whisky could be considered food in a Pecu- Har case involving Vomenico Duplessy a West Indian accused of adulteration seeking to pass iodine as scotch. The court found it impossible to charge under prohibition laws and noted no state law on liquor adulteration, so the case centered on food classification. Separately a Nanty Glo mining town fire in Johnstown Pa destroyed a business block with nine structures burned and losses around 125000.
