Rejection Reasons Remain Secret in Annapolis Hearing
In Annapolis on July 5 a Senate hearing failed to disclose why Miss Charlotte Main was rejected for reappointment as justice of the peace. About 30 mainly political club women pressed lawmakers for answers, but the closed session yielded no clarity on the decision or the secrecy surrounding it. The meeting raised calls for public appointments hearings and noted Miss Main had not applied or been contacted by her district’s senator.

Local Kiwanians heard David Beckett a Glas gow Scotland exchange student speak at a Tuesday luncheon. He is visiting the Brice home awaiting return to Scotland on July 13 and has attended St James School near Hagerstown. He compares Scottish and American education noting stricter Scottish rules and social life differences. He may study law or religion at Cambridge Enward. He described social grouping in Scottish schooling and praised some advantages of American life. Picnic planned July 14 by Mt Zion Lutheran Church Ladies Aid Society at Mrs Edward Ponte’s home Libertytown.
