Jefferson Ruritan Holds Monthly Meeting and Plans Carnival
Jefferson Ruritan Club members and guests met at the Community Center for a dinner meeting. Projects at the Raritan center were reviewed, with repairs, landscaping, and painting completed. A joint fundraiser with Burkittsville Ruritan for the Neil Keller Leukemia Fund was discussed, and the next big event is a July 2029 carnival at the center.

Freestate Challenge program for high school dropouts opens
The Maryland National Guard offers the Freestate Challenge, a 22 week resident program at Aberdeen Proving Ground for 16 to 18 year old dropouts. It is free, aims to help participants pass the GED, and includes a year long mentoring phase after completion. Sabers and Roses Ball Opens 250th Frederick Anniversary Events
Invitations mailed to Lions for the Sabers and Roses Ball at FSK Holiday Inn on Sept 8 from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Period attire requested as two bands perform in two ballrooms. The event, not a reenactment, honors Frederick’s 1862 original ball with a 105 year old flag and 44 stars. Tickets are first come, limited by hotel capacity.
