May income drops as consumer spending rises in slowdown

Americans saw personal income fall 0.2 percent in May while spending rose 0.7 percent led by lower private wages. The report, released ahead of a Federal Reserve policy meeting, notes the economy slowed in early 1995 with GDP gains revised lower and disposable income up 0.7 percent after a 0.9 percent decline.

Mount Airy displays military history in new One-Room museum

Museum curator Dominic Naples has opened the Four Counties Military Museum in Old Town Hall at 2 Park Ave to honor service members. The exhibit runs July 4 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. featuring Civil War to Gulf War memorabilia, including a Medal of Honor loan from Joanie Littman.

Martin's Food Market to Open in Frederick July 12

Martin's Food Market will open July 12 at the Frederick Shopping Center on West Seventh Street with an open house July 11 from 6 to 8 p m. Giant Food Stores Inc, owner of Martin's Supermarket based in Carlisle, Pa, says about 150 people will be employed. The store replaces the former Farm Fresh, once occupied by Pantry Pride, after November 1993 renovation approval.

Frederick police confront final offer on 22 year retirement plan

Frederick officials present a final offer to the Fraternal Order of Police raising officer retirement contributions from 7 to 8 percent of salary for a 22 year program that pays 50 percent of final pay. The deal would be funded by cutting the $625 clothing allowance to $225 and reducing personal days from three to two. The contract expired and a Thursday vote deadline was set with a press conference planned.

Bloody car found foul play feared

A gray 1984 Honda Accord with blood in the back seat was found behind the East Patrick Street parking deck early Monday. Police labeled the scene as possible foul play, dusted for prints, and towed the car as investigators testing blood and hair samples. The vehicle owner, David Perry, said he parked it Sunday night with doors locked and had no explanation.

Historic Wolf's Delight house moved to new site

Douglas Claytor and Judy Candela move the 1770 log Wolf's Delight house and outbuildings from Woodsboro to a two acre site while preserving every dismantled scrap for reuse. The house dates to 1787 when Jacob Wolf bought it from Charles Dorsey amid ties to John Ross Key. The owners emphasize living history and potential frequent visits by the Keys.
