County approves rate changes 3-2 despite opposition
County officials vote 3 to 2 to cut discount rates on public utility and other tax bills. Bruce Reeder and Sue Ann Yingling oppose the reductions, arguing utilities will pass costs to users. Potomac Edison and C P Telephone account for about 8 percent of roughly 4.56 million yearly property taxes. a 2 percent cut saves 91,260, a 1 percent cut about 45,630. Commissioner Bowerman backs the measure to balance the budget. President Sundergill notes many counties have lower discounts amid lean times.
